New Home with Sea and Mountain View

Cape Town

This is a three-level home for an extended family. The home backs onto a mountain nature reserve and has sea views from the front.

The plan is u-shaped around a sunny landscaped courtyard garden. Part of the courtyard is covered and serves as an outdoor living area with an undercover barbeque facility. The courtyard looks towards a terraced garden which leads the eye naturally to the wonderful mountain views.

The top floor which is used by the extended family is set back from the main house with balconies on both sides for sea and mountain views. The middle u-shaped floor leads directly onto the courtyard garden level. Both living area and main bedroom area look onto and lead off the courtyard garden. The living room has a feature high horizontal strip window which makes the roof look as if it floats above the walls and also affords a special view of the mountains from this room.

The dining area and lounge lead onto a large front sea facing balcony under which the three-car garage is located. There is secure undercover direct access from the garage into the entrance hall which is located at a level half way between the garage and middle main level.

A feature of the en-suite bathroom is the projecting bay which houses the bath and which has windows on two sides with views towards the sea and the mountain. Projecting bay windows on the front facade of the house allow light into the rooms from many sides and also break down the massing of the building into smaller parts.
