Amanda Katz

Amanda Katz qualified as an Architect at the University of Cape Town in 1984. She spent 5 years working in offices and learning from others before starting her own practice in 1988.

Since opening her practice she has successfully completed more than 300 projects of varying size and complexity.  Beautiful spaces have been created, on time and within budget.

Together with five other local architects, an in-house architectural technician and office manager, the team is able to complete a wide range of work as evident in their portfolio.

Amanda also taught part-time at the University of Cape Town for over 10 years. She assisted student groups with so-called “simulated office projects” allowing them to work on real projects for disadvantaged communities, giving them the opportunity to learn about the overall practice of architecture.

Extend Your Home

Amanda wrote a monthly column for the South African Garden and Home magazine called “Architect Advises” dealing with problems sent in by readers.

She also wrote a book “Extend Your Home” in 1995, published by Struik in English and Afrikaans. A PDF version is available for download below. Contact Amanda for updated information.

Our aim is to work within the confines of the particular site and its environment and respond strongly to the design clues related to context, climate and surrounding built form. We prefer the buildings that we design to be flexible so that they can accommodate changing needs over time, yet respond practically and imaginatively to the user’s needs.” Amanda Katz
